And The Grammy Goes To...Lyle Mays - Eberhard!

Lyle Mays won a posthumous twelfth Grammy Award at the 64th Grammy Awards in Las Vegas. He was awarded Best Instrumental Composition for his piece Eberhard.

Ryan was heavily involved in the production of Eberhard, which took place during the last several months of Mays’ life in 2019 and early 2020 before his passing in February 2020. Besides score supervision and assisting the composer, Ryan contributed additional keyboards and synth programming to the final recording and took on the role of conductor in the studio.

Lyle’s niece, Aubrey Johnson (also a featured vocalist on Eberhard) accepted the Grammy on Lyle’s behalf. As she stated in her acceptance speech,

In Lyle’s words, “to offer the world a better alternative is the purest form of protest.” Eberhard is Lyle’s better alternative, a protest of the world’s injustices, and a love letter to humanity.

Aubrey was the driving force in the post-production of Eberhard after the death of her uncle, and oversaw a successful independent release in August 2021. Also instrumental to the production and success of Eberhard were recording and mastering engineer Rich Breen, producer Bob Rice, producer and bassist Steve Rodby, production team ringleader Jon Papenbrook, score engraver/consultant Pierre Piscitelli, and of course the team of all-star musicians who contributed their expertise to the realization of Lyle’s composition. Full credits and more information about Eberhard can be found on Lyle’s official site.

A hearty congrats and cheers to all involved and a big thank you to all those that listen to and support Lyle’s music!
